BioIn the Gondolin RPG, Hirildil is the hapless main servant to Maiwen, a fate she endures with reserved stoicism. Some time ago in Doriath, on the brink of having a transgressive love affair revealed, Hirildil, a servant there, accepted Maiwen's offer: swearing to serve Maiwen for a length of time in exchange for passage out of Doriath. Hirildil soon learned both that Maiwen was the most appalling creature ever spawned by the Falathrim, and that, having disguised herself as a male to get out of Menegroth unidentified, she greatly preferred dressing that way. Between her quiet discretion and how well the clothes suit her, it later took Maiwen's husband Aranwe, blissfully ignorant of Hirildil's less proper history, fifty years to get a clue.
Hirildil's vow of service comes to an end in one long-year (144 regular years), seventeen days, and twelve hours, not that she's counting or anything. It might seem automatic that she would join the House of the Fountain at that time. However, Hirildil thinks the notorious "fountain boys" of Gondolin are incredibly spoiled, and, despite the fact that one of them was sufficiently lacking in taste to marry Maiwen, likes the Sindar-friendly, quiet Moles, except for Gurthang. If certain societal prejudices in Gondolin don't change during that time, she may yet be trapped working for Maiwen. Hirildil serves as Aranwe's esquire in times of war, and has a distant, worshipful crush on the princess Idril, which might be supplanted if some fountain nymph is interested.
